"WAC Approved" Icon Guidelines

Only sites that have been officially reviewed by the Web Accessibility Center may qualify to display the WAC Approved icon. Once your website reaches a WAC Approved rating, you are entitled (though not required) to use the WAC Approved icon on your site. This icon identifies your program/site as one committed to OSU's mission of inclusion.

Please note: You are responsible for ensuring your site continues to meet the eligibility requirements of the WAC Approved program. WAC may conduct periodic re-evaluations of your site and if you are found to be in violation, you will be required to remove the icon from your site.

Using the WAC Approved Logo on your Web site.

For smaller sites, the WAC typically evaluates all pages within the site. For larger sites, the WAC evaluates only a representative sample of pages. You must assess whether representative pages adequately represent all the pages of your site. If all pages on your Web site meet or exceed the OSU Minimum Web Accessibility Standards, you may display the icon on all pages or you may display the icon on the home page and major "section" pages with the ALT tag "WAC Approved Site."

</a>

It is possible to substantially improve the accessibility of a Web site without earning the right to use the WAC Approved icon and we strongly encourage any and all improvements in Web site accessibility even if they do not meet the full WAC Approved criteria.

If only a section of or top-level pages in your site pass the WAC review, you may use the icon by qualifying it in one of two ways:

  • Place the icon on approved pages with the text "This page is WAC Approved."
  • Place the icon on the home page of the site with a list of pages that are not yet approved preceded by the text "The pages listed below are not yet WAC Approved."

Placing the icon on your page

Save the icon and place it on your own server since the URL for the icon on the WAC site may change.

Internet Explorer Users:

To save the icon, right-click on the icon, then choose "Save Picture As" from the pop-up menu. Save the icon to your image folder on your Web server.

Netscape Users:

To save the icon, right-click on the icon, then choose "Save Image As" from the pop-up menu. Save the icon to your image folder on your Web server.

Be sure to use the appropriate ALT tag when inserting the icon on your page/s: "OSU Web Accessibility Center Approved."
